What is Chiaroscuro? - refers to the use of light and dark to create the illusion of three- dimensional column on a flat surface - "Chiaro"- Bright, "Scuro"- Dark Why Chiaroscuro is used? - to increase dramatic tension - create sensational effect - pull your attention to a subject in an intense way - create a tasteful composition of negative vs positive spaces For the tutorial class, Ms Jennifer then started off her demonstration on "Decisive Moment" poster with a few quotes relating to simplicity of the design using Adobe Illustrator.   Week 4 / Exercise 4-  Harmony & Unity a) Introduction Harmony in art overall is achieved when the elements of an artwork come together in a unified way. Certain element can be repeated, yet they still look and feel like they are lending themselves to a whole.  Unity is the feeling of harmony between all parts of the work of art, which creates a sense of completeness.  b) Visual research Harmony Unity c) Idea exploration  d) feedback from lecturer e) final design outcome (pictures must neatly cropped and must not be shadowy/blur)
